Bussy-Saint-Georges, a new city that has experienced exponential growth over the past 20 years, is now completing its development with the creation of its city entrance. This neighborhood, located in the immediate vicinity of the highway and crossed by several heavily trafficked roads, raises questions not only about quality of life but also about the image the city projects through this future showcase. A health-promoting urban planning approach was developed at a very early stage, making it possible to define urban forms that provide protection from the noise and pollution generated by the nearby highway. A strategy focused on promoting sustainable transportation, encouraging sports in public spaces, and stimulating the five senses helps ensure an urban project where people can thrive. The goal is to gradually shift residents’ habits and the city’s image, currently defined by its road network, toward a healthier image centered on nature and sustainable transportation. Consultation with residents has helped raise their awareness of this approach, while also prompting reflection on the city’s identity and how they wish it to grow: their thoughts on the role of nature in the city now play a major role in the project’s development.
